Gautam Adani, family donates Rs 60,000 crore to social causes on his 60th birthday

One of the richest Asians, Gautam Adani, and his family have committed a donation of Rs 60,000 crore to a range of social causes to mark the 60th birthday of the business tycoon, which falls on June 24. The Adani FoundationAdani Foundation will administer the corpus, the Adani GroupAdani Group said in a statement.

This year is also the year of the centenary birth anniversary of Gautam Adani's father Shantilal Adani.

The Indian tycoon, who turns 60 tomorrow, joins the ranks of global billionaires like Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Warren Buffett who have committed large parts of their wealth to philanthropy. According to Forbes Real Time Billionaires, Adani's net worth is almost $95 billion.

Adani took to Twitter to announce the donation for social causes. On our father's 100th birth anniversary my 60th birthday, Adani Family is grateful to commit Rs 60,000 to healthcare, edu skill-dev across India, according to the billionaire.

It added that the donation will focus on areas such as healthcare, education and skill development, which form the foundation of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. The Adani FoundationAdani Foundation has had a lot of experience in working with communities focused on integrated development efforts across all of these areas. The challenges that are posed can improve the competence and competitiveness of our future workforce. This year also happens to be the year of my 60th birthday and the family decided to contribute Rs, in addition to being the 100th birth anniversary of my inspiring father. Gautam Adani, chairman, Adani Group, said 60,000 crore were allocated for charitable activities related to healthcare, education, and skill development, especially in rural areas of the nation.

Programs related to all these three areas need to be seen holistically and collectively form the drivers to build an equitable and future-ready India. We will benefit from our experience in large project planning and execution, as well as the learnings from the work done by the Adani FoundationAdani Foundation.
