Goldman Sachs names Luke Sarsfield as managing director of asset management unit

Jan 23 Reuters -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. GS.N has appointed Luke Sarsfield to co-head its $1.7 trillion asset-management business, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday.

Sources said that Goldman Chief Executive Officer David Solomon will likely announce Sarsfield's promotion this week.

The asset-management arm of the bank provides investment and advisory services for leading pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies and others.

The unit was managed for much of last year by Julian Salisbury after Eric Lane left for investment firm Tiger Global Management in March. Sarsfield is currently co-heading the client business of the asset management arm, which has been with the premier investment bank for more than 22 years.
