GSR notification: Gadkari orders 6 airbags for all motor vehicles

New Delhi India January 14 ANI In order to improve road safety, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has approved a draft GSR Notification to make a minimum of six airbags compulsory in all motor vehicles that can carry up to eight passengers.

The Union Minister announced this through a series of tweets on Friday.

Gadkari said that in order to improve the safety of passengers in motor vehicles carrying up to 8 passengers, a Draft GSR Notification has been approved by the government.

The Ministry had already mandated the fitting of the driver airbag w.e. f 01 st July 2019 and the front co-passenger airbag w.e. He said in a subsequent tweet that he f 01 st January 2022.

Gadkari said the decision was taken to minimize the impact of frontal and lateral collisions.

In order to minimize the impact of frontal and lateral collisions on the occupants seated in both front and rear compartments, it has been decided to mandate 4 additional airbags in the M 1 vehicle category. Two side side torso airbags and two side curtain tube airbags cover all outboard passengers. Gadkari tweeted that this is a crucial step to make motor vehicles in India safer than ever.
