Infographic: smartphones to come up with new tech

Smartphones churned out new tech despite chip shortage in the industry, while keeping pace with user demands, as the pandemic kept most of the world indoors. The e-commerce platform Flipkart shared its list of predicted smartphone trends for 2022, with an eye on the year that just went by.

There are features that one can expect to see in a smartphone in 2022, given what we have already seen in 2021, according to the list of trends.

Flipkart predicts that 2022 will be a breakthrough year for budget phones, with more chipset manufacturers entering the segment by bringing in flagship features here. Alongside, 5 nm chipsets are expected to be more widely used in smartphones.

The rise of 5 G devices in India is also predicted, particularly in the Rs 15,000 to 20,000 segment. Flipkart suggests that the 10,000 to 15,000 segment could see 5 G devices introduced as the country prepares for this new tech.

AMOLED displays are expected to become a hygiene expectation in smartphones above Rs 10,000 by the end of 2022, according to Flipkart.

According to Flipkart's list of predicted trends, smartphones of 2022 will probably cater further to gaming enthusiasts by introducing higher refresh rates, attachable mods and physical buttons.

In 2022, 8 K videos will become more popular with many smartphones catering to that, according to the e-commerce platform. In addition to this, brands might focus more on new charging and battery tech with a focus on smaller physical batteries and faster charging speeds, like 120 W fast charging support, etc.

Flipkart believes that the smartphones will be lighter, slimmer, and more compact in 2022, while foldables and expandables will dominate the form factor segment with these becoming more affordable and possibly more accessible.

One can expect to see a wide variety of screen innovations like an under-display camera, etc. Smartphones in the Rs 20,000 to 30,000 price bracket may have better camera tech, like OIS support and 144 Hz refresh rates.

Flipkart predicts that consumers may explore new ways of owning a smartphone with smartphones becoming a regular necessity, such as leasing or upgrading through smart plans that make it cheaper.
