KOBE begins projection mapping on Kobe Port Tower

On January 14, KOBE projection mapping onto Kobe Port Tower, which is currently undergoing renovation work, began with various art images lit up onto sheets covering the site of the construction.

Projection mapping will color the area using works based on themes such as the cityscape and hydrangeas, the city's designated flower until spring 2023, which began at the tower in Kobe's Chuo Ward, which has been out of operation since September 2021 for renovations.

The Kobe Municipal Government, which planned the project, said: "We don't want people to lose their affection for the port tower. The projection mapping will take place seven times a day, every 30 minutes from 7 p.m.

BAKIBAKI, an artist from Osaka Prefecture, created the work. Carp which allude to a Fish Dance, a huge carp sculpture installed to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the opening of the port, swim gracefully in the projection mapping. After the completion of the 7 minute and 12 second video, the Uroko House House of Scales a former foreign residence in the Kitanocho neighborhood will be projected, and lanterns in the Nankinmachi area will also be projected.

The artwork will be displayed on a square area measuring about 40 meters on each side and will be expanded to a height of about 80 meters in February. The video will change four times and can be seen from the Meriken Park waterfront.
