Malaysian deputy prime minister denies inviting PAS to join unity government

On May 28 Malaysian deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied having any knowledge about claims that Pakistan's Parti Islam Se-Malaysia PAS was invited by certain individuals to join the unity government.

As far as I'm concerned, no one would ever dream of making such an offer, FMT Ahmad Zahid, chairman of Free Malaysia Today, said.

But I think it is best for them to keep their friendship with Bersatu Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Please stop being so conceited, he said.

The Perikatan Nasional PN coalition is a part of the opposition party, the PAS and Bersatu.

In a statement to the media, Ahmad Zahid said that certain individuals had approached him about joining the unity government.

On Saturday, Mr. Abdul Hadi reportedly said that he was contacted by individuals who wanted to meet him with an offer to join the unity government, according to the New Straits Times NST.

Some people have contacted me. Several individuals wanted to meet me with offers for PAS to join the government because PAS has the most seats, 43.

PKR has only 30 seats, with only 19 of them Malays seats, while the DAP Democratic Action Party has three Malay seats. The government is dominated by non-Malays, he said in a statement published by NST. PH's components include PKR and DAP.

They wanted to invite PaS but with PaS taking the back seat, not the front line, Mr Hadi said. In the case of forming a government, those with the most seats should lead. Following Mr. Abdul Hadi's claim, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said on Sunday that he had never been made aware of such an invitation despite being closely involved in the formation of the unity government.

I don't know what timeline the claims are referring to, but since the first day I was involved in the formation of the unity government up until now, I have never heard of such a thing, he said.

The 15th General Elections GE 15 in November last year formed the current unity government consisting of PH and the previous ruling coalition BN. The other parties and coalitions that support the unity government are Gabungan Parti Sarawak GPS Gabungan Rakyat Sabah GRS and Parti Warisan Warisan Warisan.
