Japan Provides Humanitarian Aid to Iran Amid Sanctions

Japan, keen on maintaining positive relations with Iran, has provided humanitarian aid through its development assistance program. A ceremony in Tehran marked the signing of agreements to support medical projects in vulnerable provinces.

The aid, totaling 543,435 euros, will fund medical equipment purchases for medical universities and charitable organizations. The equipment includes mammographic devices for breast cancer detection and ophthalmic examination equipment.

Iranian officials expressed gratitude for the assistance, emphasizing its importance for rural development and affordable medical treatment. The Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences will receive 135,000 euros for colonoscopy equipment, enhancing the capabilities of university-affiliated hospitals.

Japan's Foreign Ministry clarified that medical support falls outside the scope of U.S.-led sanctions against Iran. A senior official explained that Japan's strategic interests in maintaining good relations with Iran, including its ability to block the Strait of Hormuz, justify the humanitarian assistance.
