Sunita Kejriwal to Address Media Amid Husband's Arrest in Delhi Excise Policy Case

Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will address the media at noon today, according to the Aam Aadmi Party. Sources indicate that she may make significant disclosures.

On Tuesday evening, Sunita Kejriwal visited her husband at the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) office. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case, which involves money laundering allegations. He was remanded to ED custody until March 28.

The case stems from alleged irregularities and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi excise policy case 2022, which was subsequently scrapped. The investigation was initiated based on a report submitted by Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena in July 2022, highlighting procedural lapses in the policy's development.

The report alleged that "arbitrary and unilateral decisions" by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who held the Excise portfolio, resulted in "financial losses to the exchequer" estimated at over Rs 580 crore. This report was referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), leading to Sisodia's arrest.

While Kejriwal was not initially named in the FIRs filed by the ED or CBI, his name appeared in the ED's chargesheet. The agency claimed that Kejriwal allegedly spoke to one of the main accused, Sameer Mahendru, in a video call and instructed him to continue working with co-accused and AAP communications-in-charge Vijay Nair.
