Japan and India Strengthen Security and Economic Cooperation Amid China Concerns

Japanese and Indian foreign ministers, Yoko Kamikawa and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, met in Tokyo to strengthen security and economic cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral security cooperation, including defense equipment and technology transfers. Additionally, they explored potential collaboration in space and cybersecurity.

Both countries, members of the Quad grouping, share concerns about China's growing influence in the region. Jaishankar emphasized their shared values, history, and interests in maintaining peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. Kamikawa highlighted Japan's importance to India, recognizing its democratic history and representation of the Global South.

In light of the evolving security landscape, Kamikawa stressed the need for Japan and India to collaborate in addressing common challenges through dialogue and cooperation. They discussed enhancing economic security and supply chain resilience, exploring cooperation in semiconductors, green technology, and digital transformation. Japan also reaffirmed its support for infrastructure development in India, particularly in high-speed rail projects.
