Expert Committee to Review Ayushman Bharat Implementation

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has established an expert committee to evaluate the implementation of Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). Chaired by Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health) at NITI Aayog, the 16-member committee will assess the scheme's progress in beneficiary identification, hospitalizations, and implementation methods.

A crucial objective of the committee is to recommend measures to prevent fraud and misuse of the scheme. It will also explore ways to integrate AB-PMJAY with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs). The committee's terms of reference include discussing the expansion and convergence of the beneficiary base, as well as extending services and benefits under the scheme.

The committee is expected to submit its report within 45 days of its formation. Its members include Health Secretary Apurva Chandra, Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Authority (NHA), and former NHA CEO Indu Bhushan. Representatives from private entities such as Apollo Hospitals, Nathealth, and Yashoda Super Speciality Hospitals are also part of the committee.
