Cabinet Reshuffle Sees Cregan Appointed Minister for Police, Szakacs Takes Trade and Investment

## South Australian Government Reshuffle and Ministerial Expansion

The South Australian government has undergone a cabinet reshuffle and ministerial expansion following the resignation of independent MP Geoff Brock.

Dan Cregan, the former speaker and independent MP for Kavel, has been sworn in as Minister for Police, Emergency Services, and Correctional Services. He will also lead the government's political donations reform as Special Minister of State. Premier Peter Malinauskas stated that he hopes to ban political donations in South Australia, believing them to be "corrosive." Cregan assured that he will maintain his political independence despite joining the Labor cabinet.

Nick Champion takes on an expanded role in Housing and Urban Development, including oversight of SA Water and responsibility for boosting the state's housing stock.

Deputy Premier Susan Close loses Defence and Space Industries and oversight of SA Water but gains the new portfolio of Workforce and Population Strategy.

Former police minister Joe Szakacs takes charge of Trade and Investment, as well as the Local Government and Veterans Affairs portfolios.

Tom Koutsantonis picks up Regional Roads, adding to his role as Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.

Chris Picton remains Minister for Health despite calls for his removal.

The opposition criticized the reshuffle, calling it "modest" and accusing the government of showing "little regard" for its backbenchers by not promoting from within. They also questioned the decision to elevate independent MP Mr. Cregan to the cabinet ahead of them.

Geoff Brock, who will remain in parliament as the Member for Stuart, said his decision to step down as a minister was one of the "hardest" he had ever had to make. He cited health reasons, having suffered three heart attacks and major heart surgery.
