Israel Opens 157 Beaches for Swimmers in Time for Spring/Summer Season

Israel has recently launched the opening of 157 beaches equipped with lifeguard services for swimmers, coinciding with the start of the spring/summer season and the Passover school holiday. These beaches were strategically chosen - with 104 along the Mediterranean coast, 33 surrounding the Sea of Galilee, 16 positioned on the Dead Sea, and 4 lining the Red Sea - to cater to locals and tourists looking to enjoy the sunny weather.

In an effort to enhance safety measures, the Israel Defence Forces' Home Front Command has provided security instructions that are being adhered to at these reopened beaches. The Interior Ministry of Israel has highlighted the significance of lifeguards by presenting data suggesting that a large majority of drowning incidents occurred in the absence of a lifeguard, on prohibited beaches, or outside lifeguard service hours, often involving individuals entering the sea under the influence of alcohol.

To further prevent such tragic incidents, the Ministry is actively engaging with the public, disseminating safety regulations in multiple languages to ensure beachgoers are well-informed. Emphasizing the need for responsible swimming practices and caution, the authorities aim to create a safer environment for all enjoying the beach activities during this season.
