After conducting thorough discussions with its members, the Green Movement party has made the significant decision to withdraw from the We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria (PP/DB) coalition. This move comes as a prelude to the party's independent participation in the European Parliament election and the early Bulgarian National Assembly election on June 9th. The party is deliberating on whether to contest the elections on its own or as part of another coalition, as it seeks a more effective platform to champion democratic values and essential reforms vital for Bulgaria's progress.
The Green Movement's dissatisfaction with the existing coalition stems from its perception of inadequacies in upholding democratic principles and implementing necessary reforms. According to the party, compromises within the PP/DB coalition have failed to instigate positive changes concerning environmental issues and the transition towards sustainable energy practices. This lack of progress has eroded confidence in the coalition and dissuaded the Green Movement from continuing its collaboration within that framework. As a result, the party is taking a strategic decision to pursue its agenda independently or in association with a different coalition that aligns more closely with its objectives and values.
Within the Bulgarian political landscape, the Green Movement currently holds three Members of Parliament, namely Daniela Bozhinova, Vasil Todev, and Vladislav Panev. Notably, Vladislav Panev, one of the party's MPs, recently co-founded the non-partisan club Acceleration. This initiative led to his exclusion from the position of co-chairman of the Green Movement earlier this year, showcasing the evolving dynamics within the party's leadership and the wider political landscape as they navigate upcoming elections and strategic alliances.
