Jaishankar Engages in Diplomacy, Calls for De-escalation and Release of Indian Nationals

## India Navigates Tensions Between Israel and Iran

India is treading carefully amidst the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in telephone conversations with both Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Jaishankar expressed India's concern over the recent developments and emphasized the need for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy. He also discussed the release of 17 Indian nationals who were onboard a Portuguese-flagged cargo vessel seized by Iran.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement expressing serious concern about the escalating hostilities and the threat they pose to regional peace and security. The MEA called for immediate de-escalation, restraint, and a return to diplomacy.

India is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia and its embassies in the region are in touch with the Indian community. The MEA stressed the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region.

The seizure of the MSC Aries, a Portuguese-flagged cargo vessel, by the Iranian military near the Strait of Hormuz further complicates the situation. The vessel reportedly has links to Israel and its crew comprises Indian, Filipino, Pakistani, Russian, and Estonian nationals.

India's diplomatic efforts aim to navigate the complex dynamics between Israel and Iran, urging restraint and seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The country's focus remains on ensuring the safety of its citizens and promoting regional stability.
