BSE and NSE Closed for Ram Navami, MCX Operating Limited Hours

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) in India have decided to close on April 17 in light of Ram Navami celebrations. This closure includes the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, and SLB Segment for the day. Operations in the Currency Derivatives Segment and Interest Rate Derivatives segments will also remain inactive during this period.

Moreover, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) will experience a closed morning trading session, with trading to resume in the evening from either 5 pm to 11:30 pm or 11:55 pm. Similarly, the Commodity Derivative Segment will be shut in the morning but will be open for trading in the evening.

Looking towards future holidays, the BSE has outlined 15 holidays for equity, equity derivatives, and SLB segments in 2024. Notably, the market will be closed on May 1st for Maharashtra Day and on June 17th for Bakri Id. July 17th is marked for the closure of the market for Muharram, the only off day for trading in the month, while Independence Day on August 15th will also prompt a market closure.

In the recent session, the benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty experienced a downward trend, closing in the red for the third consecutive day due to weak global trends and concerns about escalating tensions in West Asia. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 456.10 points or 0.62 per cent to settle at 72,943.68, with a daytime drop of 714.75 points or 0.97 per cent to 72,685.03. The NSE Nifty likewise declined by 124.60 points or 0.56 per cent to conclude at 22,147.90.
