Election Commission Issues Notice to KCR Over Derogatory Remarks on Congress Party

The Election Commission of India recently addressed a complaint filed by Congress leader G Niranjan against K Chandrashekar Rao, also known as KCR, the President of Bharat Rashtra Samiti and former Chief Minister of Telangana. In the complaint, it was alleged that KCR made vulgar and derogatory remarks about the Congress Party during a press conference held in Sircilla on April 5. This action was seen as a violation of the Model Code of Conduct set by the Election Commission, prompting them to issue a notice to KCR.

The Election Commission highlighted that KCR had been given prior advisories and instructions regarding his speeches, indicating a pattern of behavior that led to the current notice. In response to the complaint, the Election Commission requested KCR to clarify his stance on the derogatory remarks made about the Congress Party by 11 am on April 18. Failure to respond within the given timeframe would result in the Election Commission taking suitable action as deemed necessary to address the situation.

Furthermore, the Election Commission shared insights into the actions taken since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the general elections to the Lok Sabha. They disclosed receiving and acting upon numerous complaints, with specific numbers provided for different political parties. Notably, the EC mentioned its commitment to maintaining a fair political landscape by taking firm actions against instances of derogatory and offensive remarks, particularly those against women. This move is part of their efforts to uphold dignity and respect within the political discourse during the election period.
