A New Era in Earth Observation for Disaster Prevention and Response

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. unveiled its new Earth observation satellite, Daichi-4, to the media on March 11th. The satellite will utilize advanced radar technology to monitor the Earth's surface for changes that could indicate potential disasters. This information will be crucial for disaster prevention efforts and for assessing the impact of natural disasters.

Daichi-4 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, Daichi-2. It boasts a wider observation range, enabling more frequent and detailed data collection. This will allow for better monitoring of volcanic activity, ground subsidence, and the aftermath of natural disasters.

Developed and manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric over eight years, Daichi-4 is scheduled for launch aboard the H-3 rocket in fiscal year 2024. The project, commissioned by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, represents a significant investment in enhancing disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

Daichi-4's advanced capabilities are expected to contribute significantly to building a safer and more secure society.
