Musk Questions Fine, Massie Raises Concerns About House Monitoring

Elon Musk Reacts to Congressman's Fine for Video Post

Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), has reacted to a Republican congressman's revelation that he is being threatened with a fine for not deleting a video from his social media account.

The incident began when Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) shared his experience with the House Sergeant at Arms on X. Massie claimed he was warned of a $500 fine if he did not delete a video post showing several U.S. House Representatives waving Ukraine's flag.

Musk, in response to Massie's post, questioned the authority to fine someone for posting a video. Massie, in turn, questioned the House's authority to demand the removal of a video from his congressional account and expressed concerns about the House Sergeant at Arms monitoring his social media activity.

This incident aligns with Massie's previous public stance against Speaker Mike Johnson. He had joined forces with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) in her campaign to remove Johnson following his decision to bring multiple foreign aid bills to the floor.

The video posted by Massie and Greene's demand for Johnson's resignation came after the House's endorsement of a $95 billion foreign aid package, including $61 billion for Ukraine and neighboring allies. Despite his earlier reluctance, Johnson sided with Democrats in pushing the bill forward.

Speaker Johnson has dismissed the threat of being ousted as "absurd" and has asserted his refusal to step down. However, both Massie and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) have openly backed Greene's proposal.
