Bulgaria Pledges Support for Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure Reconstruction

Bulgaria has pledged its support to Ukraine in rebuilding its energy infrastructure. This commitment was announced following a meeting between Bulgaria's Energy Minister, Vladimir Malinov, and Ukraine's ambassador to Bulgaria, Olesya Ilashchuk.

Minister Malinov emphasized the mutual interest both countries share in deepening their energy cooperation. The discussion also explored the potential sale of equipment from the Belene nuclear power plant project to Ukraine, in line with the Bulgarian National Assembly's decision from July 2023.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the need for alternative gas supplies to Ukraine in the absence of Russian natural gas transit through Ukrainian territory. Minister Malinov highlighted the strategic importance of the Vertical Gas Corridor for energy security in Southeastern Europe. Upgrading the existing infrastructure would facilitate additional alternative deliveries to Ukraine.
