Himachal Pradesh Minister Jagat Negi has accused Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Jairam Thakur, of attempting to hinder the implementation of the Indira Gandhi Mahila Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana by raising objections related to the presence of the Model Code of Conduct. Negi claimed that Thakur had lodged a complaint with the state's electoral officer in an effort to halt the scheme, but provided photographs as evidence to refute Thakur's denial of involvement in obstructing the program's progress.
Negi expressed gratitude towards the Election Commission for permitting the continuation of the application process for the scheme, insinuating that Thakur's actions were driven by fear of losing support from women voters. He accused Thakur and the BJP of distorting facts and misleading the public about the Congress Party's manifesto, specifically targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spreading misinformation. According to Negi, the BJP's attempts to block the scheme prior to the Model Code of Conduct being in effect were unsuccessful, and he highlighted that eligible women are now able to apply for the benefits provided by the initiative. Negi also criticized the BJP for allegedly stopping property tax after coming to power, claiming it was a move to benefit wealthy entities such as Adani and Ambani while causing losses to the country.
