Kishida shared that these lacquerware pieces were crafted by young artisans impacted by the Noto Peninsula earthquake and tsunami, showcasing resilience and artistry in the face of adversity.
In addition to the Wajima-nuri items, Kishida also brought Okinawan coffee beans and character-themed merchandise from the popular Nintendo game "Super Mario" as gifts for Biden. These offerings highlighted different aspects of Japanese culture and creativity. Yuko Kishida contributed to the gift-giving by presenting Jill Biden with a copper accessory from Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, emphasizing traditional craftsmanship from the Hokuriku region and deepening the cultural exchange between the two countries.
Following the gift exchange at the White House, the Kishidas and the Bidens shared a ride in the presidential limousine, affectionately known as "The Beast," as they made their way to a restaurant in Washington, D.C., for a dinner together.
