Parents of Deceased Woman to File Case Against Serum Institute Over Covishield Vaccine

The father of the deceased woman, Karunya, expressed disappointment in AstraZeneca's delayed acknowledgment of the vaccine's risks, citing numerous fatalities that occurred post-vaccination. He criticized both AstraZeneca and the Serum Institute of India (SII) for continuing to manufacture and supply the vaccines despite other countries halting their use following reports of blood clot-related deaths in March 2021, only a few months after the vaccine's rollout.

Venugopalan Govindan, the father, and his family have filed a writ petition seeking justice and the formation of an independent medical board to investigate the circumstances surrounding their daughter's death. Despite these tragic events, SII declined to comment when approached by the Economic Times (ET) regarding the matter. Govindan also highlighted concerns about the lack of transparency and data regarding the safety and efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccines that were promoted by companies and the government.

Furthermore, Govindan emphasized the need for accountability and justice, stating that if they do not receive adequate remedies, they will pursue legal action against all those responsible for the "atrocity" that led to the deaths of their children. He pointed fingers at regulatory bodies for approving the vaccine without intervening when data surfaced about potential dangers, holding them accountable for the loss of his daughter and others who have died after receiving the vaccine.
