Amazon India Head Manish Tiwary to Step Down in October

Manish Tiwary, the country head of Amazon India, will be relinquishing his role after serving the e-commerce giant for eight years. His stint at Amazon began in 2016 following a successful period at Unilever, and he has been integral to the company's expansion and success in the highly competitive Indian e-commerce market. Despite not elaborating on his next venture, Amazon confirmed that Tiwary will be moving to another company post his departure in October.

Throughout Tiwary's leadership, Amazon India has faced obstacles in broadening its reach in smaller Indian cities and towns, an arena dominated by domestic competitors like Flipkart and Meesho. The company, which has invested significantly in the Indian market, has encountered challenges due to its limited product offerings for price-sensitive customers and an underdeveloped logistics network in certain regions. Meesho, for example, has surpassed Amazon in terms of mobile app monthly active user share, while Flipkart boasts a higher daily active user count than Amazon in India.

In urban India, Amazon competes with quick-commerce startups like BlinkIt, Zepto, and Swiggy, which entice customers with swift deliveries completed within minutes. Additionally, there have been reports of Amazon exploring potential involvement with Swiggy, signaling a growing interest in the quick delivery service industry.
