Dick's Sporting Goods plans to hire 9,000 for holidays

Dick's Sporting Goods plans to hire up to 9,000 workers for the upcoming holidays.

It is looking for seasonal employees for positions at Dick's Sporting Goods and subsidiaries Public Lands, Field Stream and Going, Going, Gone! According to the retailer's announcement, The holiday hiring initiative is intended to employ the same amount of seasonal associates as it announced for 2020, according to the sporting goods retailer's 2022 holiday hiring initiative. According to a press release, Dick's Sporting Goods said in 2021 it would hire up to 10,000 workers for the holidays, the largest number of seasonal associates in the company's history.

The company reported $3.11 billion in net sales for the second quarter last month, down 5% from $3.27 billion in the same period in 2021. Comparable store sales for the second quarter decreased 5.1% from last year's second quarter.

Dick's Sporting Good has announced its seasonal recruitment plans, which comes amid a slew of other companies outlining their own hiring plans for the holidays.

Macy's is looking to add 41,000 seasonal workers to its supply chain locations, including Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury. The retailer's hiring efforts for this year's holiday season are slightly lower than the 48,000 last year's hiring efforts, though some 10,300 workers from the 2021 season stayed on, the company said.

Walmart said last week it would hire 40,000 seasonal and full-time employees for the 2022 holiday season. In 2021, the company said 150,000 associates would be brought on board.

Another retailer, Target, released its holiday hiring plans last week. The company said it would add up to 100,000 season workers, which matched its efforts in terms of recruitment numbers for the previous year, FOX Business previously reported.

Both Walmart and Target said they would give additional hours to existing employees before filling shifts with new hires.
