Joe Biden to have a talk on World Day with French president

The French president Joe Biden is expected to have a call on World Day with the U.S. President in the next few days, the French government spokesman said on Sunday, amid a diplomatic crisis caused by Australia's withdrawal from submarine contract with Paris.

France announced on Friday that it was recalling its ambassadors from Washington and Canberra over a multi-billion dollar security deal involving Britain, which also sank the trilateral order of French submarines.

President Biden asked to speak to the President of the Republic and there is a telephone discussion between President Macron and President Biden in the next few days, Gabriel Attal told news channel BFM TV.

Attal directed the UA to seek clarification on cancellation of submarine Order by France, said attal.

The scrapping of the contract, struck in 2016, has caused fury in Paris, who claims not to have been consulted by its allies. However, the Australian Government says it had made clear its concerns for months.

After the initial shock of the cancellation, discussions would need to take place over contract clauses, including compensation for the French side, added Attal.
