## US Ambassador Skeptical of UN Resolution on Palestinian Statehood

US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield expressed skepticism on Wednesday about the effectiveness of a UN resolution recommending full membership for the Palestinian Authority in achieving a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

She emphasized that President Biden remains firmly committed to a two-state solution and is actively working towards its implementation.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority is expected to push for a vote on a draft resolution recommending its full membership in the UN Security Council as early as Thursday. The draft text was circulated by Algeria, a Security Council member, on Tuesday.

However, a UN Security Council committee tasked with reviewing the application concluded that it was unable to reach a unanimous recommendation on whether it met the necessary criteria.

Any application for full UN membership requires approval from the Security Council, where the United States holds veto power, followed by a two-thirds majority vote in the 193-member General Assembly.

Despite the Oslo Accords signed in the early 1990s, little progress has been made towards achieving Palestinian statehood. Obstacles include the expansion of Israeli settlements and the ongoing division between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
