India-US Tensions Flare Over Kejriwal Arrest, Ship Crash Kills Multiple in Baltimore

The Indian government summoned Gloria Berbena, the acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in New Delhi, following Washington's comments on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Kejriwal's wife, Sunita, defended her husband's patriotism and denied any financial irregularities linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has yet to uncover any evidence of wrongdoing.

The Delhi High Court is currently considering Kejriwal's bail petition after his arrest by the ED last week. The trial court had remanded him to ED custody for a week.

Meanwhile, members of the Delhi Assembly convened for the first time since Kejriwal's arrest. The session was called after Kejriwal instructed Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj to address the shortage of medicines from jail.

In a separate incident, a ship manned by an Indian crew crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, causing it to collapse into the water. The accident resulted in at least six fatalities. Rescue operations have been suspended.

Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the government is considering revoking the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah expressed confidence in the Jammu and Kashmir Police's ability to maintain law and order, citing their successful leadership in recent operations.
